Hidden camera laws in Idaho

The actual statute, in plain English — not a paraphrase of a paraphrase.

The statute

Idaho Code § 18-6605 (Video Voyeurism)

What it prohibits

Idaho bans using, installing, or permitting the use or installation of an imaging device at a place where a person has a reasonable expectation of privacy, without their knowledge or consent, with intent to arouse or gratify sexual desire or for lascivious entertainment. Disseminating, publishing, or selling images obtained this way is also covered. Redesignated from former § 18-6609 in 2022 — older sources citing that number are out of date.

Penalty

Felony — up to 5 years imprisonment and up to $50,000 fine.

This is general public information, not legal advice, verified against the statute text linked below as of this writing — legislatures amend these laws periodically (Florida renamed its own statute in 2024). If this matters for a real situation, read the current text yourself or talk to a lawyer: https://legislature.idaho.gov/statutesrules/idstat/Title18/T18CH66/SECT18-6605/. Separately, recording audio of a conversation is governed by a different law (wiretap/eavesdropping statutes, which vary by state on whether one party or all parties must consent) — this page covers image/video capture only.

If you've actually found something, the statute matters less than what you do next: read the six steps here.
