The tell that actually matters
Pick it up and turn it around. The display should face you; if the "back" has a pinhole that isn’t a speaker or a light sensor, that’s worth the flashlight pass. Cheap novelty clocks with an unusually large bezel or a mesh grille with no obvious speaker function are the most common camera housings in this category.
