The tell that actually matters
Scale-cameras are real, openly sold products built around the same trick as the vent cover: a lens hidden in a housing that already has small holes or a dark seam by design. Pick it up and check the edge and underside for a dot that isn’t a screw head or the battery-door latch, then run the Chapter 4 flashlight-glint pass across it in a dark room. A scale positioned to lean against a wall or propped up rather than lying flat on the floor is the placement anomaly to notice — a real scale has no reason to be angled toward the room.
